The Earths magnetized field resembles the magnetic field produced by a large bar magnet. amount magnets have ends that are oppositely charged. The magnet ends are usually designated by + and - or N (for north) and S (for south). This opposite sign causes magnetic objects to align parallel to the magnetic field produced by the bar magnet. Although the Earth does not actually have a bar magnet inside, it behaves as if it did.
